For Pasty Petals

I've never been one of those ladies blessed with a tan, of any description. Apart from a brief stage I used sun beds once a week to help my spotty little face (something to do with the lights being similar to that expensive light therapy treatment I think, worked anyway). That was until  I realised the health risks involved with sun beds and the fact a mole grew into a little nubbin concerned me too much to continue, so alas, my legs bear a resemblance to that of a frozen chicken and my complexion with the wrong make up can make me look a little ill. Anyway, long story short, I'm pale. That's why I got a little bit excited when I noticed this new range of Make Up in The Body Shop by the queen of pale Lily Cole.

 The excitement was set to be short lived though as when I raced home to try the products I couldn't help but be ever so slightly disappointed. It's not often I succumb to blogging hype but when I do I hate it when the products end up to be so incredibly, for want of a better word, boring. I was definitely taken in by aesthetics this time, especially the Pearl Radiance Primer which looked so stunning in the bottle. It's like a load of little pink pearls are hanging in a gel like substance, it looked MAGICAL at the very least. The second product I chose from the range was the Lip and Cheek Dome in 'Pinch me Pink', an item chosen purely for the novelty factor. It just looked pretty cute, but that's about all it is; cute looking. If I wanted something that just looked cute I'd go buy a freakin' puppy!

 So why am I so disappointed with these products? Well, look at the swatches above. I mean the primer, I did actually squirt out a blob from the tester in the shop and thought 'surely this is just a bad one that's turned from the lights in the shop'! But no! It comes out as a horrid gritty looking snotty goo. It's easy enough to apply but then finish, which was hard to photograph, was like I'd just put a bit of fine glitter all around my face. It wasn't a dewy shimmer, it was just glitter. Dubbed on the website to 'Perfect and illuminate your complexion with this pearlescent make-up base. It gets its shimmer from mineral mica.' I certainly beg to differ. There was no silky feeling created, there was no blurring of imperfections and it did nothing to aid the application of my foundation. Even the flecks of glitter within disappeared once I did the remainder of my make up routine. For a £12 price tag I expected a lot more. The Lip and Cheek dome was equally as droll. I thought this might pleasantly surprise me after the initial disappointment of the primer, but no, it's just pointless. The colour pay off is erm, non existent unless you apply it so many times it begins to look clogged up and uneven and the moisturising properties once again, are minimal to a point of being non existent. I could of saved the £10 price tag and invested it in well, nothing, which would have been a better idea than buying this product. I'm sorry that I cannot give these a better review and so is my purse. I do like the overall ethos of the products and The Body Shop's no nonsense stance on animal cruelty but for the price and the result it's better to just save your money for something better. Have you tried these? What do you think? Did you like them, think they were OK or like me, found them to be a waste of money which I am very very bitter about right now. Never mind a pinch me pink cheek flush, the minor bout of embarrassment when I realised I had been duped by hype provided a much better glow to my face I tell thee!
